Mother’s Lap Village

Mother’s Lap Village is a small home established in the very heart of Jinja as a subsidiary of USSARC. In 2015, the founder, Grace, and Jesse learned with deep distress that a high number of newly born infants were being abandoned. Jesse realized that many of those desperate woman and girls may well have acted differently had there been an alternative. The home made a hole in their wall and a ‘baby bin’ was installed allowing for mothers to leave their babies anytime, day or night. The moment a baby is placed in the ‘baby bin’ care workers on-duty receive an electronic signal alerting them. The baby is taken in and the anonymity of the ‘donor’ ensured. News has spread and other babies have been brought personally by their mothers or have come through other means such as the police, community members, hospitals or clinics. By faith and reliance on God alone, and from small, humble beginnings, the home has grown and over 60 children’s are being saved.

For some time now mother’s lap sensed the call to branch out and do more to save lives and raise orphan and vulnerable children. In recent days the need in Uganda has become all the more urgent with abandonment continuing to increase and adoptions decreasing by as much as 50% in recent years. Then, in 2015, Grace, who was working as business woman at the time, was praying in a nature reserve asking God what could be done to reach out to a needy Uganda, and particularly those in need in Jinja. The answer that came was not one he had been anticipating, but an answer that seemed to make so much sense when it came, and an answer that Grace felt God had perfectly positioned her to pursue; a Children’s Village. God was working in other people’s hearts and circumstances at the same time and it soon surfaced that Grace and Jesse J Mbula were feeling called in the same direction, a confirmation of a long-time desire that they had felt.

You may not think you can do all that much but you can! By promoting Mother’s Lap Village you may make a significant difference by encouraging others to play a part.

Volunteer
Self-supported volunteers can give from six weeks to a year, or more, to serve. Currently volunteering is available at our baby houses i.e. Mother’s Lap Village.
Our international and local volunteers have played an important role in the success of caring for our children, and as our financial needs grow we are realizing the importance of relying on our volunteers and staff to keep this ministry running smoothly and effectively. In other words, we need you!
So what will be expected of me?
The daily duties will consist of caring for, changing, feeding, and playing with the babies. It will also mean the challenge of coordinating programs to help meet the needs of the children physically, mentally, and spiritually. The work is not easy and the days are long but the rewards are great! The love you give to these children will have a lasting impact on their lives! We are looking for dedicated Christians willing to give up their time to spend 3 months; 6 months; 1 year or longer, caring for our cherished babies.

Prayer is crucial. Keep the children, staff and the organization on your prayer list.
General Prayer needs:

  • God will bring the children to us that He wants us to take care of.
  • God will raise up more adoptive families for the many orphans in our country
  • We can secure the right land for development
  • The provision of the significant funds needed for the vision of Mather’s Lap Village.
  • The building of the Mother’s Lap Village team.
    • Leadership
    • Administration
    • House mothers/parents
    • Business entrepreneurs
    • Social workers
    • Volunteers
    • Church partners
  • God will be shown as the loving Heavenly Father that He is and be praised through the work of Hope Village.
